Sera Furneaux’s recent moving image work and digital prints have been informed by the work of Lucio Fontana, who focused on the spatial qualities of painting with the goal of breaking through the two dimensionality of the traditional picture plane. His canvas Spatial Concept ‘Waiting’ 1960 has been a starting point. 

Through her process she is interested in exploring links beyond the space of the computer, with all it’s flexibility regarding scale, to the physical world. For this exhibition she is working with a photographic print surface where images become fixed and exist physically in relation to one another. 

The heartbeat animation relates to an internal space – there is a visceral connection that is at once present and mysterious; we have a sense of our own rhythms connecting. There is very much a sense of being in the moment.
